Abstract

This study aims to identify internal and external factors that affect the development of durian farming and formulate strategies for developing durian farming in West Lombok,  Indonesia. The research uses a descriptive method. Data analysis was carried out using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) for weighting of internal and external factors, as well as SWOT analysis for the formulation of alternative development strategies. The results of the study show that durian farming in West Lombok Regency has strengths in the form of agroclimatic suitability, farmer experience, and the potential for agroforestry system development. However, weaknesses are still found in traditional cultivation techniques, limited irrigation, dependence on seasons, and weak records of farming management. Externally, opportunities are supported by increasing demand for premium durian, agrotourism potential, government program support, and research cooperation opportunities, while threats come from pest and disease attacks, climate change, competition between regions, and price fluctuations. Based on SWOT analysis with factor weighting using AHP, the development strategy is directed at increasing productivity and quality through the application of modern cultivation techniques based on local agroclimate, the development of sustainable agroforestry systems, strengthening the capacity of farmers, and improving management and adaptive cultivation systems. This strategy is expected to increase the competitiveness and sustainability of durian farming in West Lombok Regency.
